The Kawai SK-6 is a 214 cm premium grand piano that creates deep resonance, long sustain, and a wide dynamic reserve in large acoustic spaces. While its tonal core is powerful, the action and pedal system allow for the precise shaping of the softest nuances.
The Shigeru Kawai philosophy
The Shigeru Kawai series is the highest expression of Kawai’s premium grand piano manufacturing. The series continues the ideal of the company's second president, Shigeru Kawai, to "create the world's best pianos." The selection of materials, natural drying of wood, regulation of the action, and final voicing stages are carried out under the supervision of highly qualified master craftsmen. The final voicing process for each instrument is completed by a Kawai Master Piano Artisan (MPA).
Millennium III action and controlled touch
The Millennium III grand action uses ABS-Carbon components reinforced with carbon fiber. Being lightweight, rigid, and dimensionally stable, these parts facilitate the rapid transmission of key energy to the hammer, responsive performance in repeated notes, and delicate control from pianissimo to fortissimo. Extended spruce key sticks create a more even response across the front and back of the keyboard. NEOTEX surfaces offer a natural texture that provides a controlled touch.
“Shiko Seion” hammers and individual voicing
"Shiko Seion" — a special hammer system meaning "ultimate refined voicing" — is one of the core features of Shigeru Kawai grands. The hammers are cold-pressed by hand and voiced without the use of artificial hardening agents. Hand-wound bass strings and precision-machined Shigeru Kawai Concert Agraffes create clear articulation, powerful fundamental tones, and rich harmonic structures in every register.
Premium spruce soundboard and Konsei Katagi rim
The solid spruce soundboard, processed with a tapered profile, undergoes a long-term natural kigarashi seasoning process. The Konsei Katagi hybrid inner rim combines layers of selected hardwoods of varying densities: woods that provide brighter projection are balanced with those that create a warm, full-bodied resonance. Solid spruce beams, the SOLID construction, the V-Pro plate, and the CORE system support the efficient transfer of string energy to the soundboard, sustained resonance, and structural stability.
Pedals and expressive capabilities
The Dual-Pivot damper construction makes half-pedal control smoother. Together with the damper, sostenuto, and soft pedals, this system provides professional-level freedom of expression for legato, color transitions, and delicate control of resonance.
