Keyboard and Touch

The CN201's Responsive Hammer III (RHIII) keyboard action has been developed to recreate the touch of Kawai grand pianos. Each key is grade-weighted with metal hammers – heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble – just like an acoustic piano. Operating without springs, this system allows the pressed key to return on its own, making the playing experience smoother and more natural.

The RHIII maintains its stability even during vigorous playing thanks to a chassis made of reinforced materials. Felt-lined rubber cushions significantly reduce key and hammer noise – the RHIII is recognized as one of the quietest digital piano keyboards in this category. The Ivory Touch key surface absorbs moisture, improving fingertip control without slipping. The 88 counterweights enhance balance during pianissimo playing and firmness during forte playing.

The triple-sensor system increases responsiveness during rapid repetition of the same key. The let-off simulation reproduces a delicate characteristic of a grand piano keyboard – the subtle "notch" sensation felt when pressing a key very slowly – in a digital format. This feature provides experienced pianists with superior control in pianissimo playing.

Sound Quality

The CN201 reproduces the sounds of two world-class concert grands: the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX, known as "Japan's most prestigious piano," and the Kawai EX, chosen by professional pianists in international competitions (Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rubinstein). Both instruments have been reproduced with full 88-key sampling – preserving the unique tone of every note.

Progressive Harmonic Imaging technology records each note separately across wide dynamic ranges, making tonal transitions from delicate pianissimo to powerful fortissimo flawless. The CN201 also includes 19 different sounds such as jazz, pop, modern variations, Kawai upright piano sound, electric piano, organ, strings, and choir.

The motherboard, speakers, and high-quality power adapter, redesigned by the Kawai engineering team, work together to provide crystal-clear sound output with minimal distortion. The 40W stereo speaker system is more than powerful enough to fill a medium-sized room.

Functions and Connectivity

The CN201 connects wirelessly to smartphones, tablets, and laptops via Bluetooth® MIDI (v5.0) and Bluetooth® Audio (v5.1) technology. You can listen to the audio of songs and videos directly through the piano, adjust all settings from your phone with the PianoRemote app, and view the scores of 370+ pieces on the screen with PiaBookPlayer.

The built-in lesson function covers Burgmüller, Czerny, Beyer, Chopin waltzes, and the Alfred Basic Piano course. Right/left hand individual practice, metronome, and tempo adjustment are available. Virtual Technician Smart Mode allows choosing the tonal character according to the pianist's taste with 10 presets, while Advanced Mode allows precise adjustment of 18 parameters via PianoRemote. The OLED display panel provides direct access to all functions – no key combinations are required.

Design

The curved leg design and minimalist support blocks of the CN201's modern cabinet combine aesthetics with functionality. The smooth facade and tall top board give the instrument a traditional upright piano silhouette. At only 40.5 cm deep, this compact instrument is ideal for apartments.
