Keyboard and Touch

The Responsive Hammer III (RHIII) keyboard action of the CN301 is based on the same excellent technology as the CN201: grade-weighted metal hammers, springless construction, reinforced chassis, and felt-cushioned rubber pads. The Ivory Touch key surface, 88-key counterweights, triple sensor system, and let-off simulation all combine to provide the most realistic keyboard feel in this price class.

Thanks to its chassis made of reinforced materials, the RHIII action maintains its stability even during powerful playing. Kawai's keyboard system stands out from its competitors for its quiet operation, ensuring you won't disturb your family members while practicing at night.

Sound Quality

Unlike the CN201, the CN301 reproduces three world-class concert grands: Shigeru Kawai's flagship SK-EX concert grand, the medium-sized SK-5 studio grand, and the Kawai EX, a favorite in international competitions. All three instruments are recorded with full 88-key stereo sampling, perfectly preserving the unique tonal character of each note.

Kawai's Progressive Harmonic Imaging technology records each note individually across a wide dynamic range, providing seamless tonal transitions from pianissimo to fortissimo. The CN301's 256-note polyphony ensures that not a single note is lost even in the most complex harmonic passages.

One of the main features distinguishing the CN301 from the CN201 is its four-speaker sound system. The large woofers on the bottom handle low frequencies, while the 360° upward-facing speakers disperse mid and high frequencies in all directions. The result is a natural sound projection reminiscent of the sound field surrounding a grand piano.

Functions and Connectivity

One of the CN301's greatest advantages is its USB audio recording/playback capability. You can record your performance in MP3 or WAV format to a USB flash drive and listen to it later. The overdub function allows you to add new layers to your performance. Additionally, you can play MIDI files (SMF) downloaded from the internet directly on the piano.

Bluetooth® MIDI (v5.0) and Audio (v5.1) connectivity, along with the PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer apps, are the same as on the CN201. However, the CN301's Virtual Technician function features 21 parameters, offering broader customization than the 18 found in the CN201, including individual Voicing, Tuning, and Key Volume adjustments for all 88 keys. Line In/Out (6.3 mm) jacks are also available.

The lesson function in the CN301 is particularly rich: Burgmüller, Czerny 30 and 100, Beyer, Bach Inventions, Sonatinen Album, Chopin Waltzes, as well as Alfred Basic, Adult, and Premier courses – an extensive library overall. The 100 rhythm patterns, 10-song recorder (2 tracks), and ~90,000 note memory are also exclusive to the CN301.

Design

The modern cabinet of the CN301, with its curved legs, minimalist support blocks, and extruded side panels, gives the instrument a premium look. The left-hand panel with an OLED display provides direct access to all functions. The wide music rest, adjustable to 3 angles, easily accommodates large scores. Although slightly larger in dimensions (141 × 43.5 cm), the CN301's robust construction makes it suitable for professional environments as well. Available in Premium Rosewood, Premium Satin Black, and Premium Satin White finishes.
