1 videoDG30 A modern digital piano that creates a magnificent impression
The impressive DG30 model, which adds elegance to any living space, combines Kawai's highly acclaimed "Responsive Hammer III" keyboard action, captivating acoustic piano sounds, and convenient Bluetooth® connectivity in a luxurious grand piano-style cabinet. This instrument is designed to inspire players of all ages and skill levels.
Magnificent impression, compact size
A modern digital piano that creates a magnificent grand piano impression – this is the bold concept behind the new DG30 model. This eye-catching instrument combines Kawai's original digital piano keyboard and sound technologies with a modern grand piano-style cabinet in a luxurious "ebony polish" finish. As an exquisite piece of furniture, the DG30 will complement the interior of almost any room; at the same time, its compact size and form allow this impressive instrument to occupy even less space than the smallest baby grand pianos.
Grand Piano Touch: Responsive Hammer III Keyboard Action
The DG30's "Responsive Hammer III" keyboard action recreates the superior touch of an acoustic grand piano with realistic motion and a springless, rigid design, offering a smooth and natural piano playing experience. The instrument's triple-sensor system enhances sensitivity and accuracy, while structural reinforcements applied throughout the mechanism help minimize noise and key wobble during staccato and fortissimo passages.
The keyboard weight is graded, mirroring the heavier hammer feel in the bass notes and lighter in the treble notes, just like in acoustic pianos. "Let-off" simulation recreates that specific "notch" sensation felt when playing grand piano keys very gently. These important features allow professional pianists to practice their extensive repertoires with complete confidence and guarantee that they will not encounter any unpleasant surprises when playing the most perfect acoustic grand pianos.
Original 88-key Counterweights
In addition to graded weighted hammers, the "Responsive Hammer III" keyboard action features counterweights embedded within each black and white key.
Just like in acoustic pianos, these subtly balanced weights help lighten the keyboard's touch during pianissimo (delicate) passages and create a fuller, more robust feel during powerful performances.
Key Detection with Triple Sensor System
The "Responsive Hammer III" keyboard action utilizes a precise triple-sensor system to enhance playing realism.
The added third sensor increases sensitivity when playing the same key repeatedly and allows for the gradual "layering" of a single note's sound before the previous tone fades, unlike traditional two-sensor mechanisms found in many digital pianos.
Furthermore, Kawai's mechanism technology also tracks the speed at which each key is released. This influences the release character of the piano sounds, creating a wider range of expression between staccato and legato playing styles.
Ivory Touch Key Surfaces
The impressive DG30 model comes standard with Kawai's highly acclaimed "Ivory Touch" key surfaces. This finely textured material gently absorbs perspiration and oils from the fingertips to facilitate control during playing; it has a smooth, yet non-slippery natural matte finish.
Moreover, this moisture is absorbed without permeating dirt or oil into the surface, allowing the keytops to be easily wiped clean with just a damp cloth.
Let-off Simulation
As the most authentic digital piano keyboard action in its class, the "Responsive Hammer III" even recreates the "let-off" feature inherent to acoustic piano mechanisms.
This subtle "notch" sensation is felt when playing grand piano keys very gently and is used by experienced pianists to achieve greater control over playing during pianissimo passages.
Grand Piano Sound: Three World-Class Instruments
Having earned the status of "Japan's finest pianos," Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and music institutions worldwide; they are esteemed for their unparalleled tonal purity and exceptional dynamic range.
The new DG30 model incorporates the magnificent tone of two main Shigeru Kawai instruments: the flagship SK-EX Concert and the mid-sized SK-5 Studio grand pianos. This allows musicians to enjoy the complementary distinct characteristics of both instruments. Additionally, the DG30 also features the distinctive sound of Kawai's highly acclaimed EX concert grand piano. This instrument has been repeatedly chosen by professional pianists at prestigious events such as the international piano competitions named after Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rubinstein.
All three instruments have been faithfully recreated using the patented Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology and full 88-key sampling method to set a new standard in digital piano sound quality.
Full 88-Key Stereo Piano Sampling
The rich and expressive sound of the SK-EX and EX concert grand pianos lies at the heart of the DG30. All 88 keys of these world-class instruments have been meticulously recorded, thoroughly analyzed, and precisely recreated as high-fidelity digital waveforms.
This individual recording of each key—as opposed to stretching the same tone across several different notes—preserves the unique harmonic character of the grand pianos. This ensures that the sound heard when playing any weighted key on the DG30 is a faithful representation of the original acoustic source.
Harmonic Imaging Technology
When playing a superb piano, the degree of pressure applied to the keyboard affects not only the volume but also the unique tonal character of each note. Therefore, to create a realistic acoustic portrait of each grand piano, each key was recorded not only individually but also across a wide dynamic range, from a delicate pianissimo to a thundering fortissimo.
The DG30 model utilizes Kawai's patented Progressive Harmonic Imaging sampling technology, delivering a highly detailed acoustic portrait that ensures smooth tonal transitions across the entire keyboard and dynamic range.
Individual Piano Adjustments
To fully unleash the potential of an exquisite acoustic piano, the knowledge and skill of an experienced piano technician are invaluable. The technician not only tunes each note but also performs numerous regulation and voicing tasks that truly allow the instrument to "sing."
The DG30 model's powerful Virtual Technician function digitally simulates these delicate adjustments, giving discerning musicians the ability to shape the character of their chosen piano to match their personal preferences.
Adjust touch weight and intonation, fine-tune hammer and key release sounds, and subtly tune string, damper, and cabinet resonances. It's even possible to adjust the precise tuning, pitch, and character of individual notes — all in real-time.
Powerful Effects and Reverb
The DG30's powerful digital effects engine further enriches the instrument's superb core sounds, adding extra layers of detail and realism that bring performances to life.
Studio-quality "reverb" effects allow pianists to experience playing in six different acoustic environments, ranging from a small practice room to an inspiring grand cathedral.
Premium Audio Technologies
Developed in collaboration with Onkyo, one of Japan's leading manufacturers of premium audio equipment, the DG30 model features advanced motherboards, amplifiers, and sound delivery systems. These premium components combine to deliver extremely rich and clear sound quality with minimal distortion.
High-Quality Audio Hardware
The DG30's motherboard and audio hardware are engineered with the latest advancements in precision signal conversion and optimal sound quality. Advanced low-noise circuit designs and premium audio components ensure crystal-clear, high-fidelity sound with minimal distortion.
Premium Speakers
The DG30's premium speakers have been specially selected for their smooth frequency characteristics and ultra-low distortion properties to ensure the most accurate reproduction of the original Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano.
High-Performance 4-Speaker Output System
The DG30 model's 4-speaker output system is specifically designed to recreate the harmonic spectrum of an acoustic piano. Low frequencies (bass sounds) are emitted from the bottom of the instrument, while mid and high frequencies are projected outwards via speakers on the body and reflected from the polished topboard. The result is a wide and immersive tone that precisely replicates the sound projection characteristics of a grand piano.
FEATURES
The Versatility of a Digital Piano: Convenience and Flexibility Complementing the class-leading "Responsive Hammer III" keyboard action and "Progressive Harmonic Imaging" piano sounds, the DG30 also offers a rich collection of digital functions that will further enhance your musical enjoyment.
Wireless Bluetooth® connectivity, audio recording/playback via USB, "Dual," "Split," and "Four Hands" keyboard modes, as well as a variety of instrument sounds, add versatility to performers' playing. The convenient metronome function and built-in lessons ensure that daily practice for young pianists is both effective and engaging.
Integrated Bluetooth® Connectivity In addition to standard USB and MIDI inputs for connecting to computers or other instruments, the DG30 also features integrated Bluetooth® MIDI and Audio technologies. This allows the instrument to connect wirelessly with supported smart devices.
Once paired with a phone, tablet, or laptop, DG30 owners can take advantage of various exciting music apps that enhance the learning and playing experience. It's also possible to listen to the audio of songs and videos directly through the instrument's premium amplifier and speaker system without needing any additional cables.
* Bluetooth® functionality may vary by region.
PianoRemote App The DG30 model is fully compatible with Kawai's "PianoRemote" control app for iOS and supported Android devices. This app connects wirelessly to the piano via its internal Bluetooth function, offering an elegant and easy way to change sounds, adjust settings, or play a wide range of piano music through an attractive user interface.
Rich Sound Palette In addition to beautiful acoustic piano sounds, the DG30 offers an excellent selection of additional sounds, ranging from electric pianos to church organs, string instruments, choirs, and synth pads. This also includes extensive instrument and drum sets compatible with the GM2 standard.
The "Dual" playing mode allows two different sounds (e.g., grand piano and strings) to be layered simultaneously, while "Split" and "Four Hands" modes allow the keyboard to be divided into two independent sections. The latter feature is particularly useful in an educational setting, as a teacher and student (or two students) can play simultaneously on a single instrument.
Flexible USB Connectivity The DG30 is equipped with modern USB ports. These ports allow the instrument to be connected to a computer for MIDI use, as well as to load or save data directly to USB storage devices.
This "USB to Device" function allows selected instrument registrations and internal song recordings to be safely stored on USB flash drives. It is also possible to record, play back, and enjoy 16-track standard MIDI files (SMF) with the instrument's magnificent "Progressive Harmonic Imaging" sounds.
MP3/WAV Playback and Recording USB storage devices can also be used to play back MP3 or WAV audio files. This helps musicians learn the chords or melody of a new piece, or simply play along with their favorite songs.
It's even possible to record entire performances directly in MP3 or WAV format (or overdub new sounds). You can send these recordings to family and friends via email or listen to them when you're away from the piano.
Grand Feel Pedal System Kawai's reputation for leadership in digital piano realism is further strengthened by the "Grand Feel" Pedal System. This unique feature precisely replicates the position and individual weight balance of the damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano to enhance the DG30's acoustic piano authenticity.
Superior Headphone Experience
The DG30's Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument's sound when listening through headphones. The player can choose from three different acoustic presets that adjust the spatial positioning of the sound. This technology also helps reduce listening fatigue that can occur during extended headphone use.
Additionally, the DG30 allows the user to select various headphone types (Open, Semi-Open, Closed, In-Ear, Canal, etc.) for an optimized listening experience.
Built-in Lesson Function
The DG30's convenient lesson function allows young pianists to learn piano with a collection of songs consisting of classical etudes by Czerny, Chopin, Burgmüller, Beyer, Bach, and Beethoven, or the popular "Alfred's Basic," "Adult," and "Premier" lesson books.
Placing special emphasis on acoustic piano realism, the DG30 also includes traditional finger exercises, scales, and warm-ups. To further support piano development, supplementary books for all classical scores are included in the package.
Grand Piano Performance in a Modern and Premium Cabinet
The DG30 model’s appealing grand piano-style cabinet is finished from top to bottom in luxurious Ebony Polish, complemented by silver-chrome details that complete its modern and elegant appearance. The instrument’s flat front panel and tall top give it both a traditional and minimalist feel; as the performer's hands reflect on the keyboard's mirror-like surface, their artistry is visually elevated even further.
Opening the instrument’s sturdy top lid reveals a beautifully polished wooden soundboard, complemented by a decorative ribbon adorning the gleaming edges of the inner frame.
Despite its elegant and imposing appearance, the DG30 is a surprisingly compact instrument, with a depth of only 87 cm. This relatively small size allows the piano to exhibit a refined and professional character even in smaller spaces where an acoustic grand piano placement might be challenging.
Two-Position Top Lid
The DG30 model is equipped with two lid props. This allows the user to adjust the angle of the top lid according to their aesthetic preference or desired sound character.
When using the long prop, the lid stays in a fully open position, which ensures that the sound is fully projected outwards, creating a bright and clear tonal character. The short prop, on the other hand, keeps the lid in a semi-closed position, resulting in a darker, softer, and more mellow sound quality.
