Kawai SK-5 Acoustic Grand Piano
Kawai SK-5 — Shigeru Kawai acoustic grand piano
Kawai SK-5 balances power, tonal presence, and delicate control within a 200 cm body. Its long string scale and selected soundboard material create full bass, a colorful middle register, and free treble projection.
The Shigeru Kawai philosophy
The Shigeru Kawai series is the highest expression of Kawai’s premium grand piano production. The series continues the ideal of the company's second president, Shigeru Kawai: "to create the world's best pianos." Material selection, natural wood drying, mechanical regulation, and final voicing stages are carried out under the supervision of highly skilled craftsmen. The final voicing process for each instrument is completed by a Kawai Master Piano Artisan (MPA).
Millennium III action and responsive touch
The Millennium III grand piano action uses ABS-Carbon components reinforced with carbon fiber. Lightweight, rigid, and dimensionally stable, these parts ensure rapid transmission of key energy to the hammer, responsive performance in repeated notes, and delicate control from pianissimo to fortissimo. Extended spruce key sticks create a more even response across the front and rear of the keyboard . NEOTEX surfaces provide a touch closely resembling natural texture with precise control.
“Shiko Seion” hammers and individual voicing
“Shiko Seion” — a special hammer system meaning “supreme refined sound” — is one of the key features of Shigeru Kawai grand pianos. Hammers are hand-pressed without the application of heat and voiced without the use of artificial hardeners. Hand-wound bass strings and precisely machined Shigeru Kawai Concert Agraffes create clear articulation, a powerful fundamental tone, and a rich harmonic structure in every register.
Premium spruce soundboard and Konsei Katagi rim
The solid spruce soundboard, processed with a tapered profile, undergoes a long-term natural kigarashi drying process. The Konsei Katagi hybrid inner rim combines layers of selected hardwoods of varying densities: woods that provide brighter projection are balanced with those that create a warm, full resonance. Solid spruce beams, the SOLID construction, the V-Pro cast iron plate, and the CORE system support efficient transfer of string energy to the soundboard, sustained resonance, and structural stability.
Pedals and expressive capabilities
The Dual-Pivot damper construction makes half-pedal control smoother. Together with the damper, sostenuto, and soft pedals, this system provides professional-level expressive freedom for legato, color shifts, and delicate control of resonance.
