MEINL was founded in 1951 by Roland Meinl. Originally a manufacturer of wind instruments, the company's first cymbals were made in 1952. The cymbals were cut from large sheets of metal, hand-hammered, turned and drilled by Roland Meinl. He would then personally transport the cymbals to the train station on the trunk of his bicycle and ship them. From these humble beginnings, MEINL has grown to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of percussion instruments.
